The A2070 shuts both ways from Park Farm to Brenzett on the nights of 7 and 8 October, and the Ashford 10k closes roads from Kennington on Sunday 11 October.

The A2070 closes in both directions between Park Farm roundabout and Brenzett roundabout on two nights this week: from 20:00 on Wednesday 7 October to 06:00 on Thursday, and again from 20:00 on Thursday 8 October to 06:00 on Friday. That is the whole road from the southern edge of Ashford down to Romney Marsh. National Highways lists it as maintenance works.

Then on Sunday 11 October the Givaudan Ashford 10k closes a loop of roads through Kennington, the town centre and Willesborough, on a rolling basis, between 09:20 and 11:05.

Every date below was checked on 4 October 2026 against the source linked beside it.

The A2070 to Brenzett, Wednesday and Thursday nights

On both nights you cannot drive the A2070 between Park Farm, on Ashford’s southern edge, and Brenzett, the roundabout where it meets the A259 on Romney Marsh. That cuts the direct route between Ashford and Hamstreet, New Romney, Lydd and Rye.

  • Wednesday 7 October, 20:00 to 06:00: A2070 closed both ways, Park Farm to Brenzett
  • Thursday 8 October, 20:00 to 06:00: the same closure again

National Highways has not published a signed diversion for these two nights. Its south east maintenance schemes page has no entry for the job as of today, and the seven-day report gives only the times. The standing order that allows the closure lists the roads diversions may use, among them Hamstreet Road, Ashford Road, the A2042 and the A259, but it does not say which route goes with which night, so we have not guessed one (National Highways seven-day road closure report, Friday 2 October to Thursday 8 October 2026, last updated 2 October 15:30; A259 and A2070 trunk roads temporary traffic restrictions, NH/SE/2026/A259/RNO).

The Cloverleaf slips close Monday and Tuesday

The Cloverleaf is the A2070’s junction with the A2042 at South Willesborough. National Highways has booked slip road closures there on two nights, under a scheme covering the A2070 from M20 junction 10a to Finn Farm roundabout:

  • Monday 5 October, 20:00 to 06:00: the A2070 westbound exit slip and entry slip
  • Tuesday 6 October, 20:00 to 06:00: the A2070 eastbound exit slip and entry slip

Junction 8 is out every night, one way

Junction 8 is the Hollingbourne and Leeds Castle junction, about a dozen miles west of Ashford towards Maidstone. It matters if you drive to Maidstone or London in the evening.

  • Monday 5 October to Thursday 8 October, 20:00 to 06:00 each night: the westbound entry slip at junction 8 is closed, for communications work between junctions 8 and 9

The M20 eastbound reconstruction is not booked this week

The M20 eastbound closure between junction 9 and junction 10a, for carriageway reconstruction, last ran on the night of Friday 2 October. It is not booked on any night from Monday 5 to Thursday 8 October in the current report. National Highways has brought schemes back after a gap before, so check the report again before travelling late next week.

Sunday 11 October: the Ashford 10k

Kent County Council has made the order for the Givaudan Ashford 10k Road Race. Roads close on a rolling basis, for up to one day, between 09:20 and 11:05, with marshals letting emergency services through and managing access for residents. The roads on the course are:

  • A2070 Kennington Road and A2070 Willesborough Road, in their entirety
  • A28 Canterbury Road, Kennington, from the A2070 to The Street, and again from the A2042 Faversham Road to Simone Weil Avenue
  • The Street, Kennington, in its entirety, and Ulley Road from The Street to Upper Vicarage Road
  • Upper Vicarage Road in its entirety, and the A2042 Faversham Road from there to Penlee Point
  • A2042 Canterbury Road from Simone Weil Avenue to Hardinge Road, then North Street to Somerset Road
  • A292 Somerset Road, A292 Mace Lane in its entirety, and A292 Hythe Road from Mace Lane to Lees Road
  • Lees Road, Ashford and Willesborough, and the A2070 Kennington Road from Silver Hill Road

(Kent County Council, multiple temporary traffic regulation notices, Ashford, published 2 October 2026).

Local roads closing this week

The same 2 October batch makes these closures in the borough. All are made, meaning confirmed:

  • Frogmore Lane, Bonnington, about 250m south of St Rumwold’s Church, from Monday 5 October, with completion estimated for 18 December, for drainage works. This is the longest new job in the borough. The diversion runs via Bonnington Road, Knoll Hill and Giggers Green Road.
  • Harmers Way, Egerton, between the new development entrance and number 10, 5 to 17 October, 08:00 to 16:00, for sewer connection and section 278 works. There is no diversion; residents and emergency vehicles keep access.
  • Snargate Road, Kenardington, about 100m west of Smiths Farm, 5 and 6 October, 08:00 to 17:00, for pole and cabling works. Diversion via Kenardington Road, Appledore Road, The Wish and Church Lane.
  • Ebony Road, Stone, from the B2080 Reading Street junction southbound for about 2,550m, from 6 October, for up to one day, 09:30 to 15:30, for pole testing. Diversion via Acton Lane, the B2082 Stocks Road, Wittersham Road and Catts Hill.
  • Harris Lane, High Halden, opposite Springbourne Farm, 6 and 7 October, 08:00 to 17:00, for pole and cabling works. Diversion via High Halden Road, Bush Lane and Thurstons Lane.
  • Pilgrims Way, Boughton Aluph, about 70m east of Bramley Mount Farm, 6 and 7 October, 08:00 to 17:00, for pole and cabling works. Diversion via Wye Road and the A28 Canterbury Road.
  • Fridd Lane, Bethersden, near the Mill Hill Farm business units, 7 to 9 October, for installation works. Diversion via Old Surrenden Manor Road, the A28 Ashford Road, Goldwell Lane and Etchden Road.
  • Surrenden Road, Pluckley, between Wenny House and Healan Wood, Friday 9 October, 09:00 to 17:00, for frame and cover replacement. Diversion via Malmains Road, Station Road, The Street, Forge Hill, Charing Road and Swan Lane.

One closure from the previous batch is still running:

  • Branch Road, Chilham, near Harvest House, to 5 October, for gas works. Chilham is in Canterbury district, about six miles north east of Ashford. The diversion runs via Bagham Road, Bagham Lane and the A28 (Kent County Council notice, dated 25 September 2026).

Kingsnorth: the 30mph is due to end on 8 October

Kent County Council ordered works on Ashford Road, Magpie Hall Road and Steeds Lane in phases from 24 August, with estimated completion by 8 October 2026, plus a temporary mandatory 30mph limit from Smithfield Farm on Magpie Hall Road to Taylor Farm on Steeds Lane, and from St Helens to Alfred Road on Ashford Road. That notice has now dropped off the Public Notice Portal, so we could not re-read it today. Nothing in the 25 September or 2 October batches extends it, but we cannot confirm the works have finished on time.

Further ahead: 12 to 23 October

These are all proposals (“intends to make”), so treat the dates as advertised rather than certain. The first twelve come from the 25 September batch, the rest from the 2 October batch.

Sevington yellow lines: objections close at noon on Monday

Kent County Council is proposing Amendment No.7 to the borough’s waiting restrictions order, which would put double yellow lines on Church Road and Kingfisher Close in Sevington, at and near their junction. Objections and letters of support close at 12 noon on Monday 5 October 2026, by email to tro@kent.gov.uk. The council says an objection “must explain the impact on traffic in the locality to be valid” (Kent County Council notice, dated 11 September 2026).

Trains: Sunday 11 October

Southeastern has engineering work at Ashford International on Sunday 11 October:

  • Buses replace trains between Ashford International and Dover Priory. High speed trains from St Pancras to Ramsgate via Dover run between St Pancras and Ashford International only. One bus calls at Folkestone West and Folkestone Central only; another calls at all stations except Westenhanger, which gets a minibus from Sandling.
  • No trains run to or from London Charing Cross or Waterloo East all weekend, 10 and 11 October. On the Sunday, trains that normally run from Charing Cross to Dover via Tonbridge and Ashford run between London Victoria and Ashford International only.

Southeastern gives no times in the notice (Southeastern engineering works, 11 October 2026).

What it means for you

  • Heading for Hamstreet, Romney Marsh or Rye after 20:00 on Wednesday or Thursday, the A2070 is shut from Park Farm to Brenzett. Plan another route before you set off.
  • Using the Cloverleaf at South Willesborough after 20:00, the westbound slips are shut on Monday and the eastbound slips on Tuesday.
  • Joining the M20 at Leeds Castle for Maidstone or London after 20:00, Monday to Thursday, you will need another junction.
  • Driving through Kennington, the town centre or Willesborough on Sunday morning, keep clear of the 10k course between 09:20 and 11:05.
  • Taking the train to Folkestone or Dover on Sunday 11 October, it is a bus from Ashford.
  • If you park on Church Road or Kingfisher Close at Sevington, you have until noon on Monday 5 October to say what the yellow lines would do to you.

How to check before you set off

  • National Highways road closure report is the seven-day list of what is booked on the M20, M2, A2, A20 and A2070, night by night. It is more accurate than the traffic orders, which only grant permission. Nights get added between editions, so check it again the day you travel.
  • National Highways: Operation Brock says whether the contraflow barrier is in or out.
  • Public Notice Portal carries Kent County Council’s temporary traffic orders in full, with the diversion routes, usually a week or two before the signs go up. Ashford’s district orders and the Kent-wide orders are published as two separate notices.
  • Kent County Council roadworks links to the live map of the local network.
  • Southeastern engineering works takes a date, so you can look up any weekend ahead.

Council notices always carry the phrase “or until the works have been completed”, so completion dates are estimates rather than promises. The council also marks each order either “has made”, meaning it is confirmed, or “intends to make”, meaning it is still a proposal.

Which junction you actually want

Ashford has four M20 junctions serving one town, and using the wrong one costs you ten minutes on the ring road.

  • Junction 9 is the one most people mean by “the Ashford junction”. It feeds the A20 and the A28 for the north of the town, Kennington, Willesborough and the town centre.
  • Junction 10 puts you on the A2070 and the A292 for the ring road, the station and the Designer Outlet. If you are shopping or catching a train, this is usually quicker than junction 9.
  • Junction 10a is the newer southern junction, for Sevington, Orbital Park, Waterbrook and the roads down towards Romney Marsh.
  • Junction 11 is past the town, for Westenhanger, Hythe and the coast.

Getting in without driving

  • By train, Ashford International has 616 parking spaces and step-free access to all platforms, so park-and-ride-by-rail from the villages works. Times and season prices are in our Ashford trains to London page.
  • On foot, the station, the town centre and the Designer Outlet sit within about a mile of each other.
  • By bus, the station forecourt doubles as the town’s main bus interchange, so connections from Kennington, Park Farm and Tenterden all land in the same place.
